I began dancing at the age of six when my parents enrolled me in Bharatanatyam dance classes.

Bharatanatyam is a classical form of Indian dance which originated in Tamil Nadu.

At 16, I trained for and performed my arangetram, signifying progression into professional dance.

The arangetram is a 3 hour long “graduation” dance, requiring both years of classical training and intensive physical training up to the event.

Soon after, I joined a residential school, where I led and choreographed for various dance groups.

At the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics, various cultural dance groups allowed us to perform genres ranging from hip hop to Indian Bollywood dance.

At Stanford, I was able to further expand my engagement with dance.

I was fortunate enough to be accepted to and train with the Stanford Bhangra team during my freshman year at Stanford. Bhangra is an energetic, traditional form of folk dance, originating from Punjab.

I also pursued new genres, including contemporary dance, by taking classes at the Stanford dance department.
